The first photo trip to the Euregio Karelia region was undertaken by photographer Anastasia Khoroshilova on June 12-23, 2013. She visited Joensuu, Outokumpu, Ilomantsi and Sortavala. Her work is based on a photo trip to the border cities and landscapes of the Finnish and Russian Karelia. The aim of this trip is to create a visual construction of the single Karelian space that exists in different countries due to the historical and political destiny of the region.
The second trip, again by Anastasia, was held on August 12-24, 2013 to Petrozavodsk and its suburbs, Medvezhyegorsk, Kostomuksha and Lieksa (Finland). And the third trip was taken by Jaakko Heikkilä to the Republic of Karelia (Kostomuksha, Voknavolok, Medvezhyegorsk, Padany and Sortavala) and to the North Karelia region, Finland.
The results of these field trips will be presented in the Destination - Karelia photo exhibition in Moscow, St.Petersburg, Joensuu and Petrozavodsk. The exhibition will comprise a series of portraits of the residents of Karelia who guided the photographers through the cities and villages they live in and the places that matter to them.
