Euregio Karelia: museum hypertext
Contract 2012-04-426


The goals of the competition are:

  • to create designs of new theme sections in present exhibitions in museums in Sortavala, Kostomuksha and Medvezhyegorsk and
  • to create design projects of the whole system of hypertext markup elements and navigation interfaces of the museum environment being created in the Euregio Karelia region.


The competition was held in September - October 2013 and comprised 3 stages:

- During the PRE-COMPETITION STAGE the designers who later on took part in the competition visited museums in Sortavala, Kostomuksha and Medvezhyegorsk to get acquainted with the museums and their collections. This field trip was organized on September 3-5, 2013 for designer artists Sergey Terentyev (Petrozavodsk), Svetlana Potapova (EXPOMANIA, Moscow) and Nadezhda Karpova (Ludiarchitects Group, St. Petersburg).

- During the COMPETITION itself the designers submitted their design projects. Each designer offered one project for each museum leaving the Jury with 3 suggested designs for the museum in Medvezhyegorsk, 3 designs for the museum in Sortavala and 3 designs for the museum in Kostomuksha.

- SELECTING AND ANNOUNCING THE WINNER. On October 16, 2013 the jury announced the winner of the closed competition. Artnavolok design bureau together with artist Sergei Terentyev will turn their projects on paper into reality for the three museums in Karelia.


Based on the competition results AN EXHIBITION “How to Show the Museum Hypertext” will be organized in Petrozavodsk in the Vykhod Media center. The submitted designs and scenarios will also be featured in Facebook in the project’s community.
